Psychedelics have been used as medicine in cultures globally for centuries. The United States, however, was "founded" by Puritans with a penchant for genocide, which we all know doesn't mix with a heroic does of shrooms. Fast forward several hundred years and a lot of MK Ultra later, and psychedelic-assisted therapy is gaining traction. Dr. Rick Doblin, founder and executive director of MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) wrapped phase three trials on MDMA therapy for PTSD among veterans and other survivors.
